Training We Offer

The Trust offers training to individuals, their support networks and professionals to increase knowledge on neurodivergent topics and approaches from a neurodivergent perspective. 

Training We Provide

  • Autism Specialist Support Approaches – 2 hours 

An introduction to Kent Autistic Trusts autism-specific approaches that enable supporters to understand, support and interact effectively with neurodivergent people. This course focuses on ways supporters can improve their communication and consistency, and create supportive environments.  

 

  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) – 2 hours 

A practical, values-led course exploring how behaviour can be understood as communication. The course covers the importance of improving quality of life and implementing proactive strategies to reduce distress and deliver consistent support using evidence-informed PBS principles. 

 

  • Sensory Processing Awareness and Support – 2 hours 

This course explores how sensory differences affect everyday experiences for autistic people. It provides practical strategies to identify sensory needs and adapt environments and support approaches to reduce overwhelm and promote regulation. 

 

  • Communication and Visual Supports – 2 hours 

Focused on improving understanding and expression, this course introduces a range of accessible communication tools and strategies, including visual supports. It helps supporters to ensure individuals are able to communicate effectively and have their voices heard. 

 

  • Active Support and Meaningful Engagement – 2 hours  

A course that explores ways to increase participation, independence, and engagement in meaningful activities. It focuses on enabling people to take an active role in their own lives, with the right level of support.

  • Understanding Autism - 2 hours 
    Workshop aimed at Autistic adults and their support networks to understand why someone maybe diagnosed, looking at the DSM5 criteria and what this means in real life.  Some of the theories around autism, the common misconceptions and what we can do to help each other in a neuro-norm society.  There are opportunities to ask questions and links to ongoing resources that will help improve understanding. 

     

  • Understanding different coping mechanisms - 2 hours Workshop aimed at Autistic adults and their support networks to understand what can make a person feel overloaded and what that may look like.  What can help to reduce the overload or anxiety by better understanding self and how the environment may engage with us.  There are opportunities to ask questions and links to ongoing resources that will help improve understanding of self. 
     

  • Sensory and impact on autistic adults - 2 hours 
    Workshop aimed at Autistic adults and their support networks to understand sensory profiles and how this can impact on people and their lifestyles.  What is the difference between seeking behaviour and avoiding and how this can impact on successfully understanding self.  What can help and support better interaction outside safe environments.  There are opportunities to ask questions and links to ongoing resources that will help improve understanding of self. 

     

  • Guide to UC Limited capability to work process - 1.5 hours 
    A guide to completing UC50 form for Autistic applicants, exploring how each element can be answered to reflect some of the needs of the applicant.  This can be either self-applicants or applying for someone else.  Will also explore the process of face-to-face assessments and what happens if you are refused.  

     

  • Guide to completing DLA form - 1.5 hours 
    A guide to completing DLA form for Autistic applicants, exploring how each element can be answered to reflect some of the needs of the applicant.  This is mainly aimed at the main carer who complete the forms for a child they care for.  Will also explore the process if you are refused first time. 

     

  • Hormones, Women and Autism - 2 hours 
    Workshop is for Autistic females, and support networks wanting to explore the impact on hormones from puberty to menopause on Autistic women and how this impacts lives.  Looking at the wider issues of the hormones in functionality, what things may help and what to be aware of when navigating medical system and the wider world. There are opportunities to ask questions and links to ongoing resources that will help improve understanding of self. 

     

  • Understanding Autism for Professionals - 2 hours 
    Aimed at people who want to learn more about autism and how to look at daily approaches to help people in a neuro-normal world.  We look at how people get their diagnosis, how sensory can impact in coping.  Common misconception around autism and how practice can change to be inclusive.  There are opportunities to ask questions and links to ongoing resources that will help improve understanding. 

     

  •  Understanding Autism, ADHD, AuDHD - 2 hours 
    ​This session is aimed to increase understanding of Autism, ADHD and AuDHD and how they can play a part in each other.  There is a brief introduction into the medical and social model and why this is important, question neurodiverse or neurodivergent? Brief description of all three diagnosis, with some myth busting.  There is opportunities to ask questions and details of further resources. 

     

  • Impact of Autism, ADHD and AuHD in sports - 2 hours 
    The session is aimed for coaches, players and parents to explore these diagnosis and what they can mean for players, how it may impact on the style of coaching and receiving information and exploring the benefits of the sport for the individual.  We can make the presentation fit for the sport that you are focusing on and will have opportunities for questions and resources for further reading. 

     

  • Transition from children to adult services - 1.5 hours 
    This session is aimed at parents of autistic children that are close to or in the transition phase of children services to adult services, it will explore new laws that you need to be aware of, what are the options available, how to ensure your and your child’s voice is heard and some practical suggestions for the future.  There are opportunities to ask questions and we can add elements that are important to the group. 

     

  • Co-production - 1.5 hours 
    This is designed for organisations and groups to explore their own co-production, it will look at what co-production is, what is good examples, what co-production isn’t and how to avoid the common misconceptions.  It gives participants an opportunity to ask themselves questions about their own bias in co-production.  The session will have opportunities to ask questions. 

  • Autism and addiction - 2 hours 
    This session is aimed at professionals working in addiction services or organisations.  The session will cover what diagnosis is and what it means for autistic people, looking at sensory profiles, executive functioning and questioning how this may impact on addiction and recovery, why could autistic people turn to addiction, what can help and some common misconceptions about autism.  There will be opportunities for people to ask questions and links to resource lists that aid further learning. 

     

  • ​Employment and sensory profile - 2 hours 
    Aimed at people looking at going into employment or employers wanting to know more about supporting people with reasonable adjustments.  The session covers the 8 elements of sensory and seeking and avoidant behaviour, explore what reasonable adjustments could be in each area depending on the environment/career they are representing.  There is opportunities to ask questions and links to further resources.

     

  • Honouring your well-being - 1.5 hours 
    This session is aimed at young people coming into adulthood to explore their understanding of self and what they can do for their wellbeing to prevent burnout, reduce impact of negative views or support mental health conditions in the future.  There are opportunities to have discussions and explore theories further working with the groups understanding and abilities. 


All courses can be online or face to face, and we are happy to create full or half day packages using the above training sessions, or a bespoke training tailored to your needs. 

PBS Consultancy Service​​​​​​​

We offer PBS consultancy sessions which are designed to support organisations and teams in applying Positive Behaviour Support in practice.

 

Sessions can include:

  • Individual case consultation and support planning

  • Functional assessment guidance

  • Practical strategies to reduce behaviours of concern and improve quality of life

  • Coaching and reflective practice for staff teams

  • Advice on embedding PBS approaches within services

 

Our sessions are tailored to your needs and can be online or face to face.
